An Epiphany Regarding Song While I listened tonight to the familiar melody of The Legendary Theme, at the end I understood it on an entirely new level. One that pertains to me. The solo guitar at the start..must be the everyman using his character, his charm and his individuality to boldly make a statement. The distorted guitar which serves as an introduction is the time period from birth until adolescence. Then, when the pure electric takes over, it must be the boy's realization of self and of the beginnings of adulthood. The reiteration of the theme sets refinements to the identity. Up until the middle he is merely establishing the theme as his own identity. Later on, however, when the second guitar joins-there is a rush of emotion that I now understand as unadulterated joy and a feeling of total liberty. Then while the new guitar plays the established theme, the man becomes something completely new. His new identity, while based on the theme which defined it in the beginning, could not have come about without the help of the second guitar-the female. Then, the ending is a reprise of the beginning, with the two guitars in perfect harmony. This is the entirety of what I have been feeling, including this year. Time and distance has allowed me to forget the imperfections that create endearment. Perhaps now my solo will be enriched by that of another voice.
